Drift ice can be seen in the frozen waters of the Sea of Okhotsk facing the northern area of Hokkaido Prefecture. Drift ice can be seen every year from early February through early April but the season depends on the climate.

There are two icebreaker ships, "Ryuhyo Kanko Saihyosen Aurora" (Drift Ice Sightseeing Icebreaker Aurora) and "ryuhyo Kanko Saihyosen Garinko II" (Drift Ice Sightseeing Icebreaker Garinko II).
Drift Ice Sightseeing Icebreaker Aurora is a large ship with a capacity of 450 people.
Drift Ice Sightseeing Icebreaker Garinko II uses its Alkylene Median Screw on the bottom of the ship to crush the ice and move forward.

The Drift Ice Sightseeing Icebreaker Aurora From Abashiri Station of the JR Sekihoku Line, take the bus to the "Ryuhyosaihyosen Noriba" stop. The address is: 093-0003 Hokkaido, Abashiri-shi, Minami 3 Johigashi 4-5-1
The Drift Ice Sightseeing Icebreaker Garkinko II From Engaru Station of the JR Sekihoku-honsen Line, take the Hokumon Bus toward Monbetsu to the last stop. From the bus stop, it is a 10 minute car or taxi ride.

    Lake Akan-ko is located in Kushiro city of Hokkaido Prefecture and is the 5th largest freshwater caldera lake in Hokkaido.
    It is famous because it is the only lake in Japan with colonies of Marimo (Type of spherical algae).
    Because these Marimo algae grow in a perfect spherical shape, it has been designated as a special natural monument of Japan.

    By public transportation:Take the JR Nemuro-honsen Line to Kushiro Station. There, transfer to the Akan Bus Akan Line and get off at the "Akan-ko Onsen" bus stop.
    By car: It is a 1 hour 10 minute drive from the "Bihoro IC" interchange on the Bihoro Bypass. There are paid parking lots around the onsen hot springs area.

    Lake Mashu is a caldera lake in Teshikaga-cho, Hokkaido. Its area is 19.2 km2, circumference – 20 km, deepest point is 211.4m. The water in the lake is very clear and the lake is called the clearest lake in the world.

    Car: Urahoro IC on Doto Expressway, two and a half hours to Mashu. Paid parking is available – 410 yen for normal car.

Kawayu Onsen boasts 100% of its water is direct from the hot spring source and there is no filtration of chlorine, nor is hydrolysis performed. Visitors can enjoy the hot spring water straight from the source.

    By public transportation: Kawayu Onsen Station of the JR Senmo-honsen Line is the closest station. From Kawayu Station, take the Akan Bus toward Kawayu Onsen. Get off at the last stop.
    By car: The closest interchange is the "Ashoro IC" interchange of the Doto Motorway.

    Kushiro Wetland is located in Hokkaido Prefecture's Kushiro-heiya and is Japan's largest wetland. A vast number of animals and plants inhibit the area around Kushiro River
    It is possible to observe the wetlands up-close from the boardwalk of the wetlands as well as by canoe along the river.

    By public transportation: From JR Nemuro-honsen Line's Kushiro Station, take the Akan Bus Tsuri Line, Hororo Line to the "Kushiro Tenbodai" bus stop.
    By car: Take the Doto Expressway to the "Honbetsu JCT" junction then head 103 km along National Road 242 toward Lake Akan. There is paid parking lot available.

    Get off at Nemuro-honsen Line's Shintoku Station and take a taxi to reach Shintoku-cho. By car, take the Dotodo Road to the "Tokachishimizu IC" interchange and continue east along National Road 274 to reach Shintoku-cho.

    Nemuro Nakashibetsu Airport is an airport located in the town of Nakashibetsu in Eastern Hokkaido. It is a convenient airport for reaching tourist spots in Eastern Hokkaido such as Akan Mashu National Park, Shiretoko Peninsula, a World Natural Heritage Site, and so on. Regular flights are operated from Shin-Chitose Airport and Haneda Airport.

  • Q.Will I get refund if I don't get to see the drift ice?

    A.Since the drift ice is a natural environmental phenomenon, there are cases when the drift ice is not visible due to temperature, currents, etc. Some plans do offer a partial refund, so please check the plan details when making your booking.
  • Q.Will there be a bus guide / tour conductor?

    A.As this plan does not include a guide, participants are required to board the buses, boats, etc, at their discretion.
    Please pay close attention to the plan and be on-time for all schedule items.
  • Q.Where do I receive the various tickets and vouchers included in the plan?

    A.If you have chosen a day-trip plan, tickets and vouchers will be handed to you on the day.
    In the case of a plan that includes accommodation, tickets and vouchers will be sent to your lodgings. Please pick up your tickets and vouchers at reception.
  • Q.Will there be foreign language support/guidance?

    A.Generally, guidance will be in Japanese.
  • Q.Can I select my seats for the icebreaker ship?

  • Q.Can I choose the type of hotel room?

    A.Rooms will either be Western, or Japanese style. Unfortunately it is not possible to choose.
